Microsoft teams status changes to away. Under Status select the status you want to show going forward. The program takes these signals as proof of your unavailability and changes your status accordingly. If you are using the mobile app you can alter your activity status by following these steps. Next to the Available status click Set Status Message. To explicitly set it yourself go to your profile at the top of Teams and select one from the list.

Teams currently shows a status of Out of Office which I am not. That issue was that Teams would set users to Away if the app was in the background or not in focus and the user was Active on their computer. My attempts at changing the current status to Available are ineffective its stuck on Out of Office.
